STATUS OF THE SAMARKAND INTERNATIONAL MUSIC FESTIVAL «SHARQ TARONALARI» («MELODIES OF ORIENT»). The International Music Festival «Sharq
Taronalari» has been set up for the purposes
to popularize the best achievements of national musical arts, preserve
and develop great folklore traditions, to bring up young generation to love
excellence, as well as to further expansion of International creative links,
glorifying the ideas of peace, friendship, mutual understanding, futher
strengthening of mutual cultural and spiritual cooperation. The Festival will be held in Samarkand city once
in two years. 1. Structure
of the Festival The main founders of International Music
Festival «Sharq Taronalari» are the Ministry of Cultural Affairs of the
Republic of Uzbekistan, Tour-Concert Association «UZBEKNAVO», «UZTELERADIO»,
Union of Composers of Uzbekistan,
Samarkand region Municipality. 2. Festival
Arrangements The following arrangements will be held during the
Festival: n
Competition on the best performance of national song; n
Scientific-creative conference; n
Gala-concert. 3. Festival
Conditions The creative delegations of
9 persons (creative group up to 7 persons; 1 musicologist; manager or
producer; 1 honorary guest (according to the accord) may participate in the
Festival measures. The number of participants at their own expenses
are limited up to 6 persons. All participants will have to apply their
musical programme to the Organizing Commitee. Duration of the musical programme should not
exceed 30 minutes and may include the following directions: 1. Folk
musical creativity; 2. Traditional
classic music; 3. Modern
music, including variety compositions. 4. Obligations of the
Organizers. The Organizers of the festival cover 100%
expenses of the members of jury and in case of neñessity, one of the
accompanying person, as well as expenditures of honorary guest connected with
participation at the Festival, and the following costs of the other participants
- up to 50% - for the CIS countries, up to 100% - for those countries which the National Company
«Uzbekistan Airways» has flight
connections with. Board and lodging (doublerooms),
internal transport expenditures of festival participants from each country in
the territory of Uzbekistan will be
paid by the Organizing Committee according to the quota (Chapter 3). (If the
participant prefers living alone, the suplementary payment by the participant
himself requered ). In case of
necessity, medical care will be also provided. 5. Rules
of the Best Performing of National
Song competition Creative groupes, as well as soloists may take
part in the competition. The competition consists of
3 stages. At the first stage which is considered to be
preliminary, a candidate will be selected after the audition of his 3 songs
recordings (audio/video or CD). Duration of the songs should not exceed 15
minutes. No songs are admitted if they were performed earlier in other
International Competitions. Participants should send audio/video cassettes and
CDs to the address of the Organizing Committee till fixed date. The alive songs will be performed at the second
and third stages either by accompaning of the instrumental ensemble of 7
musicians or with phonogramme - 1 (minus 1). Deadline of application for participation in the
competition is June 15, 2001. Application forms should be send to the following
address: 30, Navoi street, Ministry of Cultural Affairs, 700129 Tashkent, Republic of
Uzbekistan. 6. International
Jury The International Jury of 11 persons will be
formed for estimation of the competition. The bright national characteristics, pithiness,
high level of performing skill of singers, the Oriental dressing and stage
artistizm are the main criterias of the estimation of jury.
7. Awards The following awards are established for the winners of
the Competition. Grand Prix -
US $ 10,000 The first prize (2)
- US $ 7,000 The second prize (2)
- US $ 5,000 The third prize (3)
- US $ 3,000 Founders, creative unions, funds and other
organizations may establish special prizes. The CDs of the compositions performed by winners of the
compitition will be issued. All participants of the Competition will be awarded
with special diplomas. 8. Organizer’s
rights The International Festival reserves the
following rights worldwide: 1. The
exclusive rigth to broadcast or to permit others to broadcast the Fesatival. 2. The
exclusive rigth to produce and to distribute all types of Festival audio and
videomaterials (records, CDs, compact casettes, films and videotapes). 3. The
non-exclusive right to use for promotional purposes some of the subsidiary
materials sent by applicants to the Organizing Comittee. 4. All
participants arriving to the Contest sign an Agreement with the Contest about
observing licence, copyrights, and respecting laws and traditions of Uzbekistan,
fulfillement a Regulations of the Contest. 9. Conference The International Scientific and Creative
Conference «Intercultural comparison of maqoms and related phenomenon», as
well as «round table» of managers and producers for International cooperation
in music industry will be organized which covers the theme within the festival. Texts of reports or wide thesis should be
presented in advance by the spokesmen of the Conference. The working languages of the Conference are
Uzbek, English, Arabic and Russian. |
