The Republic of Uzbekistan is situated between Amudaria and Syrdjaria rivers in the center of the Central Asia. Its territory occupies 447,4 thousands square km. Its population is 24,4.

On August 31st, 1991 the Republic declared its independence. It was acknowledged by more than 130 countries. The Republic has dip­lomatic relations with 90 and embassies in 20 countries.

Uzbekistan is a full member of the interna­tional community. On March 2nd, 1992 it joined the United Nations Organization. Many international organizations have opened their representative offices in Uzbekistan Among them the UN, the European Community, the World Bank, the European Bank of Reconstruction and Development and many others.

The Republic has its representatives in the UN, the Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe, bodies of the Commonwealth of In­dependent States etc..

Uzbekistan possesses great labor potential, its labor resources make up more than 40% of Central Asian labor resources. The average age of Uzbekistan's citizens is 23,9 years.

Many various types of mineral resources are found on the territory of the Republic. They in­clude approximately 100 types that ore already used in all branches of the economy, More than 2700 deposits of commercial minerals are found and 900 of them already have been researched,

Uzbekistan has one of the biggest gold reserves in the world (4th place) and possesses vast uranium, copper, natural gas, tungsten,

phosphorites resources.

More than 440 ore deposits, open pits, quarry, oil-refineries etc. are maintained now in the Republic.

The power supply system of the country in­cludes 37 power stations, total capacity of which equals 11,2m kWt perh,

The existing power supply system can ac­commodate all new investments projects without building new power stations, Nine big natural gas pipefines are functioning on the territory of the Republic. Their total length is more than 4 thousand km.

Two thirds of all the machinery produced in the Central Asian region is made in Uzbekistan.

At the present time only two countries in the world, Uzbekistan and United States of America, possess the industrial potential for manufacturing the entire field agricultural and cotton-processing machinery for the cotton in­dustry,

One of the biggest aircraft plants in the CIS is also situated in the Republic,

Uzbekistan is the only Central Asian manufacturer of black metals, caproloktam, engines, motors, elevators, cut glass, hydropumps etc.

Uzbekistan is one of the oldest irrigated countries in Asia. More than 4,2m hectares of its territory are in irrigation areas.

The Republic is one of the main cotton manufacturers and suppliers in the world.

It is also one of the biggest producers of fruits, vegetables and grapes,

Uzbekistan is welt known for its astrakhan fur, silkworm cocoons, wool export,

Transport lines connect all regions of the Republic. The total length of Uzbekistan's railways is 3655 km, automobile roads—84,400 km. Soon the Republic will be connected with Euroasian railroad through Iran by Tedjen-Serahs-Meshhed line and it will be the last stage of the transcontinental line South-East­ern Asia - Western Europe which is 1500 km shorter than the Transsiberian line.

Uzbekistan Khavo Yullari offers regular flights to 20 countries. There are direct flights from Tashkent to New York, London, Beijing, Frank-furt-am-Maine, Seoul etc.
